It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Well, it has been for a while, I guess, with Thanksgiving coming early and all. Plus we just had to get out the Christmas decorations since we were already going through everything. Plus Julie got a fancy tree up at Tai Pan in Utah before we came back down. So we had to try it out. My favorites are the head-sized bulbs we got to go on the tree.

Abigail and Grace didn’t really lose a step coming back. They ended up in dance and singing classes the week after we got here. They have some good friends in their classes and they know the teachers, so that really helped. We were so happy that they were able to do it and that they’re so enthusiastic about it. Grace even asks us when she’ll be able to sing a solo. Those of you that know her pretty well know that that statement is a big deal!

Saturday they had their first performances. First it was at Chick Fila, where they did their “So long, farewell” routine from the Sound of Music. I had a hard time getting over how grown-up they looked in their jazzy outfits. Eeesh. They both had parts during this performance that they normally don’t do, and they both did great. Grace did the end part where she sings by herself. I think she loved it, because she’s told me about 4 times since then that she wants to do a solo.

Later that night, their singing group sang a few songs at the Marley Park Holiday Festival. It was quite fancy, and they did a great job.

They had all kinds of fun stuff at the festival. Abigail and Grace both made quick work of the shrimp that they found. The manners are still coming. Lucy had quite a few cookies. They also had some fake snow machines that were kind of cool. The “snow” was some sort of foam or bubbles or something.

To top the night off, Santa himself was in town. Abigail made sure to tell him what everyone wanted.

This week should be pretty exciting as we gear up to have the family over next weekend. Hopefully the kitchen will be done and we’ll be able to get enough patched and painted to look decent. There’s another recital on Saturday (thus the reason they’re coming over here). Fun stuff.

  5. Michelle,
It was good to talk to you yesterday en route to IKEA! You sound great and it made me miss all you gals up North. Hope girls night out was fun! Talk with you soon and Happy Holidays from down South…

  6. Oh my, could your girls be any prettier? Beautiful tree. Wanna come decorate my boring house? I love the “head”sized ornaments 🙂 Merry Christmas! Annie

  7. How are you with the new little one? We loved your Christmas card! Can’t wait to hold Grace 🙂

  8. Great party Saturday night you guys – thanks for hosting! Abby & Grace are really talented. And Lucy’s self-written Christmas song (was it “Christmas bells are good”?) was a highlight!

By the way, I have a confession to make. I was curious how those snowflakes were made on your windows, so I put my finger on the one just west of your kitchen table. There’s a smudge on the snowflake at the top left in that window. Just pretend one of my kids did it.

Mikey – I only overshot my quota (2) on Ali’s cookies by 1/2 a cookie.

  9. Sean,

You are so busted–I laid into Lucy for that smudge–lol (only kidding). It was fun to see all the kids participate and Ali & Jana tore it up on the piano!! We appreciate the time, food, and effort made by all to come and yes, gas money too. I forgot to contribute to the pot for the trek out West here 🙂

  10. Thank you! I can’t wait to see what else you’ve done with your house. Catherine told me about all the exciting changes. Hopefully you can wrap it up soon…my house is calling your name…seriously!

  11. Annie,

I hear you’re laying low with that new baby! I would say you are so wise! Don’t go back to church until you absolutely have to–wait til January or leave after sacrament because once they start handing you things and asking you questions it’s Primary President mode again.

I think I have more holes in my wall than a dart board has. They are installing my sconces today which means more fine fine dust, drywall patching, spackle and painting. Couldn’t have timed a move, remodel and Christmas any better….ugh!
